The Cleveland Browns joined the National Football League
(NFL) in
1950. The Cleveland Browns colors are brown and orange. The Cleveland Browns Helmet design is
orange with brown and a white center stripe.
The Cleveland Browns started to dominate the league by becoming one of the best
teams in the National Football League (NFL) in 1950. The Cleveland Browns won the first of six consecutive
division crowns and went on to win the National football leagues' (NFL)
championships in 1950, 1954, 1955 and lastly in 1964. Being led by head coach Blanton Collier the
Cleveland Browns won division titles in 1968 and 1969, losing the championship
game thereafter. The Cleveland Browns
were not their dominant self in the 70's and even though they qualified
for the playoff in 1972, they lost in the first round.
Unable to make it to the postseason in 1973 and 1979.The Cleveland Browns only bright spot in the 70's was the American Football Conference
(AFC) division Championship in 1971 which they won. The Cleveland Browns drafted Bernie Kosar in 1985. He teamed with Earnest Byner and Kevin Mack to power Cleveland’s resurgence in the mid-1980s. The Browns made the playoffs from 1985 through 1989, and Kosar became one of the National Football League’s
(NFL) best quarterbacks. Cleveland got to the American Football Conference
(AFC) Championship Game in 1986, 1987, and 1989, but each time, the Cleveland Browns lost to the Denver Broncos. Their only consolation was winning the American Football Conference
(AFC) Division Championship in the same years. The Cleveland Browns suffered five losing seasons in their final six years in Cleveland.
In early November, 1995 team owner Art Modell announced plans to move the team
to Baltimore.
Three months after the announcement, which shocked the Browns fans
and the city of Cleveland, the National Football League (NFL) gave Cleveland a team and the rights to the Browns’ name, colors, and memorabilia. Modell was awarded a new franchise, named the Baltimore Ravens, which began play in 1996. The Browns returned in 1999 under
new owner Al Lerner and head coach Chris Palmer. The Cleveland Browns were
founded in 1946 and became a charter member of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) in 1946 with Paul Brown as head coach and general manager. The Cleveland Browns Home stadium is known as Cleveland Browns Stadium. The
Cleveland browns dominated the All-American Football League winning the championship from 1946 to 1949.
